Aging Embossed Aluminum with Dana
Hi! Dana here today sharing a card that I created with the Poetry Embossing Folder from the Elegance Collection. I started this card with an embossed piece of Aluminum. I added a patina finish to the aluminum with a patina green finishing set and some color to the blooms with alcohol inks. With a few simple steps, its possible to add years of weathering in just minutes!
Step One: Emboss a piece of aluminum with the Poetry Embossing Folder and prime the surface with a clear sealant.
Step Two: Using a paint brush, apply several coats of a copper metallic surfacer to the aluminum. While the last coat of metallic surfacer is still wet, randomly apply a patina green antiquing solution to the aluminum with a paint brush using a pouncing motion. Set aside to dry. Note: The Sophisticated Finishes Patina Green Set that I used is not a paint or faux finish. These chemicals cause copper, brass and bronze to oxidize as they might naturally, given years of exposure to the elements. The patina solutions work on genuine metals, like copper, brass and bronze, as well as non-metal surfaces, like wood, plaster, glass, ceramic, canvas, cardboard and plastic.
Step Three: Using a paint brush, apply color to the blooms with Alcohol Inks and let dry. Randomly apply a black tinting solution, or black paint or ink, to the aluminum for a grungy look. Let dry. Protect the aluminum with a coat of clear sealant.
Step Four: Mount the aluminum onto a card base and embellish to finish. Note: I mounted my aluminum piece onto a some cork, to add another fun layer of texture, and then onto a cardstock base. I then added a ribbon bow that I topped with a Vintage Gold Self Adhesive Gemstone. I finished my card with a sentiment sticker that I adhered with a piece of Foam Mounting Tape.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
